Food Education Specialist [AR]

The new Thaden School in Bentonville is adding a Food Education Specialist to their faculty with lots of farm to school/school garden responsibilities. Please share with anyone that might be interested.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • prepare the teaching garden (and hen house) for the arrival of Thaden’s first students in August 2017 (approximately 60-75 students in grades 7 and 9)
  • guide students through the planting, cultivation, and maintenance of the teaching garden
  • collaborate with the director of food services (and other culinary resources in the area) to supplement school lunches with food produced on campus
  • collaborate with faculty members, including specialists for the other signature programs (Wheels and Reels), on the broad integration of the Meals program into the curriculum
  • develop programs and projects that use food as a medium for community engagement and cultural exchange
  • lead trips for students that introduce them to food systems throughout the region
  • develop a long-range plan for growing the Meals program in ways that will optimize the school’s agricultural spaces and gardens, teaching kitchen, and greenhouse
  • work with architects and consultants on the design and development of all infrastructure needed to support the vision for the Meals program
