Small Places LLC (www.smallplaces.org) is a startup working to use agriculture to address Houston's food access and diet-related health issues. They are into their third year of operation of their first farm, Finca Tres Robles.
Finca Tres Robles is a 1.25 acre farm just 2 miles east of Houston's downtown, the only privately run and operated farm inside Houston's 610 loop. Using their experience and location, they engage the neighborhood and city on social, business, and political levels to argue the value and need to invest in agricultural infrastructure and skilled farmers.
Initially, apprentices will work side by side with the farmers but will begin to take work on their own as they grow in comfort and knowledge of the different processes of the farm. They will be a part of each major aspect of the running of the farm operation. Become a part of a small but devoted group of young farmers working to creatively discuss and work out solutions in this thriving city.
