Farm Manager [AL]

The McDowell Farm School is located in rural Alabama, about an hour outside of Birmingham. It is a residential teaching farm where K - 12 classrooms come out for an average of three days. Although it's rural, there are many visitors and events on the property so it is easy to meet people. The team is in search of a new Farm Manager.

The Farm Manager is responsible for daily care of dairy goats, pigs, meat rabbits, and laying hens. Numbers fluctuate, but we have 4 goats ready to kid in February, 20 pigs, 50 laying hens, and 10 meat rabbits. Goals for 2017 are to increase our flock by 150 more birds and add a flock of sheep to assist with pasture management. Our two barns are powered by solar energy and we are taking steps to be completely off the grid.

Applicants should be confident in training and managing our seasonal farm instructors, be able to work with kids, and welcoming to all farm visitors.

The Farm School is looking for a full time Farm Manager, a position which provides housing and benefits. Please send your resume and cover letter the Director, Ali at
