Brevard College seeks an enthusiastic teacher to fill a tenure-track, nine month faculty position as an Assistant Professor of Agricultural Education and Environmental Studies, beginning fall 2016.
Successful candidates must be interested in teaching agricultural education and related courses at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum including supervision of student teachers. Development of a teaching licensure program in Agricultural Education and an emphasis in Sustainable Agriculture that builds on the existing major in Environmental Science is expected. The successful candidate will be able to identify community partnerships and funding sources and will be expected to recruit students. Mountain-style, sustainable agriculture is based on small-scale niche markets rather than large agribusiness, and fits into the model of experiential education practiced at Brevard College. Evidence of supervision of K-12 student teachers is advantageous. A terminal degree such as a PhD or EdD from an accredited institution is advantageous, but an MS may be acceptable. Teaching responsibilities include, but are not limited to, introductory agricultural education and upper-level courses in at least one agricultural area such as horticulture or animal production. In addition, courses in introductory biology, chemistry, environmental science, or general teaching methods will be expected to round out the teaching load.
