Farmstead Ferments is a small farm and value-added operation located near Charlottesville, VA. They create raw, naturally-fermented foods and beverages made by hand in small batches featuring sustainably-grown, fresh ingredients procured from their own gardens as well as from local farmers.
Farmstead Ferments is seeking an energetic team member to join their rapidly expanding fermented foods business. The perfect collaborator will be proficient in the kitchen (strong knife skills and ability to work efficiently) and will have an interest in local food systems, fermented foods and will be excited to spend time in the kitchen turning the bounty of the season into delicious ferments.
Looking for an enthusiastic, articulate, dependable, creative and resourceful person to join the team. Positive attitude is a must, as are the abilities to be flexible, to wear many hats and to see the big picture of what we are sharing with the world.
The position will start off 20-30 hour per week with the potential to grow into a more full-time opportunity.
Responsibilities include: processing farm produce into kraut, pickles and other fermented goods, making water kefir sodas, jarring and labeling, organizing inventory, cleaning, composting, harvesting, filling orders and creating seasonal flavors based off what’s coming in from the garden.
Requirements: Available 20-30 hours per week, able to lift 50 lbs, able to interact with people in a friendly and positive manner in a busy environment, problem-solving skills and working proactively, knowledge of fermented foods (or at least an interest in learning!), able to work independently and as a team.
