The American Pastured Poultry Producers Association's signature event, Professional Pastured Poultry Conference, is happening January 21-22, 2019 in Greenville, Texas. If you meet the criteria, we'd love to have you join us.
You may ask yourself what "professional pastured poultry" means?
In many ways, professional pastured poultry describes the historical mission of APPPA. We collect farmers who are raising pastured poultry as a business and provide opportunities to learn, network, and collaborate in ways that further refine the pastured poultry model.
This Professional Pastured Poultry Conference is now in its third year, and we launched the format because many of our experienced producers no longer found the typical pastured poultry workshop applicable. The time they spent networking with like-experienced producers in the hallways at winter conferences often provided so much more value than the scheduled workshops.
It's about relationships.
And if you think about it, the value of personal relationships shouldn't surprise us. Pastured poultry is as much a community as it is a way to raise chickens and turkeys. As a community, we are leading a counter-cultural approach to raising chicken, turkeys, and eggs; it's an approach that unites people of diverse backgrounds.
We can't readily turn to the traditional agricultural educational institutions for in-depth help, guidance, and understanding. Many of them still think outside access is a primary threat to avian influenza, and the pastured poultry model has been rapidly scaling up in recent years.
So we turn instead to a collaborative model with our peers.
Our greatest asset is our people.
As a community, our greatest asset is the knowledge each one of us accumulates, and it turns out, we have different strengths. And many of the leading voices in the community are transparent and willing to share.
When we condense that diverse body of wisdom into a single room for two days, we mix that wisdom together through conversation and probing questions. The specific results are hard to calculate, but I'm no longer surprised by the breakthroughs, the inspiration, and the hopeful energy.
A unique approach.
We don't have the normal "command and present" format of most workshops. Our conference is a series of facilitated discussions among the participants that are allowed to go where the group wants. This means the topics of the conference are directed by the people who show up.
Our super early bird rate expires November 15, 2018. On November 16, the price goes up and it will continue to rise as we near the event.
Make your plans this weekend and then register.
