The December 9th field day will be hosted by Roberts Farm in Winona, Mississippi. Topics will include: “Crop Selection/Seed Acquisition; Winter Fruit Crop Activities; and Feature the Farm’s Eco-Agroforestry and Fruit Trees”. Experts/presenters will include: Dr. David Nagel, Horticulture Specialist and Dr. Jeff Wilson, Regional Extension Specialist from Mississippi State University; and Vickie Roberts, farm owner.
The Roberts Farm is Mississippi’s Agroforestry Specialty Crop Demonstration Site. In 1997, Vickie Roberts, managing partner for Shelton Roberts Properties, relocated from Florida to her birthplace, Winona, Mississippi to the family’s fourth generation farm. In 2012 she became one of twenty-one people appointed by Secretary of Agriculture, Thomas Vilsack, to the U.S. Forestry Systems Planning Rule Advisory Committee and reappointed in 2014 for a second term.
Roberts Farm has been designated as a Certified Tree Farm and recently selected to be the Agroforestry Demonstration Farm for the state of Mississippi. The goal is to have everything grown on the farm using organic farming techniques and proprietary super-oxygenated water systems, thereby producing specialty and medicinal products that are high in antioxidants and healing qualities. Something that supports healthy lifestyles, and will eventually supports a growing Eco agroforestry tourism economy.
Vickie’s passion is consulting with landowners and helping them get clear titles to their property. Once clear titles are obtained landowners can utilize cost share opportunities for sustainable practices on their property that are available through the USDA.
