2019 Call for Posters
Attention Researchers, Graduate Students and Agricultural Service Providers
We are pleased to announce the call for posters for Southern SAWG’s 28th Annual Practical Tools and Solutions for Sustaining Family Farms Conference. Our mission is “To empower and inspire farmers, individuals, and communities in the South to create an agricultural system that is ecologically sound, economically viable, socially just, and humane. Because sustainable solutions depend on the involvement of the entire community, Southern SAWG is committed to including all persons in the South without bias.”
Our Practical Tools and Solutions for Sustaining Family Farms Conference attracts over 1,200 farmers and advocates every year and provides a great opportunity for you to share research results, program outcomes and lessons learned. (Separately, we offer trade show tables for organizations, agencies and businesses to distribute materials, demonstrate or sell services/products, and/or interact with target audiences. Those interested in displaying a poster(s) at this event must first submit a brief abstract for each poster (instructions below). Only those abstracts approved by Southern SAWG may display posters at this event. We will review all submitted abstracts and make decisions regarding acceptance as abstracts are received. You will be notified within two weeks of receipt about acceptance. Further details and registration materials will be provided at that time. If the abstract is approved, the early bird registration fee for poster displays will be $150.00 each with a special discounted rate of $50.00 each for currently enrolled graduate students. After the early bird deadline, fees increase to $225 (and $75 for graduate students). NOTE: poster registration does not include conference registration—you must register separately for the conference. You do not have to be present in order to have a poster displayed. Posters can be shipped to the conference site.
Poster content should be aimed at providing practical tools and solutions for sustaining family farms and creating local food systems.
We invite abstracts for posters that focus on issues related to sustainable agriculture and food systems including, but not limited to, the following topics:
organic or sustainable commercial production of vegetable crops, field crops, poultry, livestock, forest crops, fish, cut flowers, value-added products or other specialty crops;
business and risk management;
direct or alternative marketing strategies;
local food systems;
climate change impacts on agriculture;
youth in agriculture;
farms on campus;
Abstracts are due by November 2, 2018.

You may submit more than one abstract, but you must submit each one separately.

Body of abstract: No more than 400 words or 1/2 page
Upon acceptance of your abstract, you will be emailed the secure web link for paying your poster registration fee. The poster registration fee is due by December 7 (for early bird rate of $150 or $50 for current graduate students. After December 7, the fee goes to $225 and $75 for graduate students. We cannot accept purchase orders or vouchers. Personal or institutional checks or credit card information must accompany your poster registration form.
Your poster registration fee must be paid in full, via personal or institutional check or credit card, before poster will be displayed.
The poster size should not exceed 46” x 36” (or 36”x46”). High-quality, color printing is requested.
You do not have to be present at the conference in order to have a poster displayed but payment must be received by the deadlines listed.
If you are bringing the poster with you. posters must be received in Little Rock by Noon, Thursday January 24, 2019. Southern SAWG staff will install posters for display onsite.
If you are shipping your poster, you must inform Teresa in advance and ship it by a method that will guarantee arrival NO LATER THAN TUESDAY JANUARY 22 to the address below. Fedex, UPS and US Mail will deliver to this residential address. NOTE: In January these services may experience weather delays, so plan accordingly. Ship to:

Posters will be on display at the Statehouse Convention Center during regular conference and trade show hours January 25 and 26, 2019.
We encourage you to take your poster at the end of the event. We cannot return ship posters, and any posters that are not picked up onsite by 6 pm on Saturday evening will be recycled.
The registration for the conference and pre-conference events is not included in the poster registration fees. You must register separately for the conference. The pre-conference and conference programs and conference registration details will be available by October 1, 2018 at www.ssawg.org/january-2019-conference.
Timeline and Registration
November 2, 2018 — abstract submission deadline at: ssawgconference.org/posters.
November 9, 2018 — abstract acceptance notification sent and poster registration material provided.
December 7, 2018 — $150 (or $50 for graduate students) early-bird poster payment deadline;
$225 (or $75 for graduate students) if payment is received after December 7.
January 24, 2019 — poster received at conference facility no later than noon on Thursday.
