WhyHunger is hiring a U.S. Programs Director who will lead the two existing U.S.-based programs: the Nourish Network for the Right to Food and the Grassroots Action Network, and coordinate and collaborate on projects and initiatives with the Global Movements Program. The U.S. Programs Director will ensure that WhyHunger’s U.S.-based goals, outcomes and strategies are rooted in the organization’s theory of change that envisions resilient, powerful and unified networks and alliances of grassroots leaders and community-based organizations working at the intersection of the root causes of hunger and poverty to build and strengthen movements to transform our current food system into one that nourishes whole communities and ensures the rights of all people to food, land, water and sustainable livelihoods.
The U.S. Programs Director will lead, supervise and mentor staff of the U.S. Programs and work to build their capacity to provide support to grassroots-based organizations around the country, and emerging grassroots-led alliances. The position requires an experienced program manager, strategic thinker, organizer, and skilled advocate of grassroots leadership. The position requires someone who is highly organized, a strong writer and verbal communicator, a facilitative leader who appreciates and cultivates the creative wisdom and collective spirit that can be found in teams invested in shared learning and common struggle. The position requires a strategist with significant knowledge and experience in the intersectional issues of hunger, poverty, social movements, and the right to food and nutrition.
