Sweetwater Farm is a non-profit, community-supported urban organic farm and educational center located in the Town n' Country area of Tampa (just northwest of TIA). Throughhands-on programs, visitors of all ages practice appropriate land stewardship and master sustainable agriculture techniques.
Sweetwater Farm is hiring one Education Apprentice to work seasonally from January through the end of May (with an opportunity for extension through the summer) teaching visiting students about organic agriculture and growing organic produce.
Bending, lifting, walking and carrying bins of produce are part of the daily routine. The Education Apprentice will work closely with the Education Program Manager to organize and lead field trips, attend community outreach events, designing creative educational activities, and maintaining educational "Future Farmer" garden and herb garden. The Education Apprentice will additionally work with the Farm Manager, Farm Apprentices, Volunteers, and Interns doing field work; including, seeding, planting, weeding, and harvesting.
Sweetwater recruits 3-4 Farm Apprentices/ Education Apprentices each season to dig right in and learn the basics of sustainable farming through full-time hands-on program. Apprentices live on farm property in Apprentice house (which also serves as the Education Center) and receive a stipend of $100 a week. Each Apprentice will have their own private sleeping area, and will share a common area that includes a full kitchen, bathroom with shower, and living area with an enclosed porch. The house has Wi-Fi for internet access. Apprentices work 40 hours for 5 days of the week (including weekends). Apprenticeships are considered complete at the end of the Season and Apprentices will be required to vacate the Apprentice house at that time.
