 Who we are: Farmstead Ferments is a small farm and value-added operation located near Charlottesville, VA. We create raw, naturally-fermented foods and prbeverages made by hand in small batches featuring sustainably-grown, fresh ingredients procured from our own gardens as well as from local farmers.

Job Title: Production Staff Member

Job Description: We are seeking an energetic team member to join our rapidly expanding fermented foods business. Our perfect collaborator will be proficient in the kitchen (strong knife skills and ability to work efficiently) and will have an interest in local food systems, fermented foods and will be excited to spend time in the kitchen turning the bounty of the season into delicious ferments.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, articulate, dependable, creative and resourceful person to join the team. Positive attitude is a must. This work is important and fulfilling but can be monotonous and we are looking to hire someone who can see the big picture of what we are sharing with the world and not mind doing repetitive work!

The position will be start off 20-30 hour per week with the potential to grow into a more full-time opportunity.

Responsibilities include: processing farm produce, making kraut, pickles and other fermented goods, making and flavoring water kefir sodas, jarring and labeling, organizing inventory, cleaning, dumping compost from kitchen in the compost pile, filling orders and creating seasonal flavors based off what’s coming in from the garden

Requirements: Available 20-30 hours per week, able to lift 50 lbs, able to interact with people in a friendly and positive manner in a busy environment, problem-solving skills, knowledge of fermented foods (or at least an interest in learning!), able to work independently and as a team.
