Berea College seeks Organic Farming Coordinator

Berea College Department of Agriculture & Natural Resources is seeking an individual with a bachelor's degree in agriculture or a related field and experience in commercial-scale organic crop production for a position managing and overseeing certified organic and transitional organic cropland.

Responsibilities: All applicants should be capable of demonstrating a safe work record, be able to operate a variety of farm equipment, and have a valid driver's license with a safe driving record. This position is extremely physically demanding and requires working outdoors year-round in all weather conditions with exposure to cattle, pigs, goats, dust, pollen, soil, and plants.

Qualifications: The successful candidate for the Organic Farming Coordinator position should have the equivalent of at least three years of practical experience in organic field crop production including grain, hay and pasture. Candidates for this position should possess the following: an understanding of USDA organic regulations; practical experience operating and maintaining planting, cultivating, and harvesting equipment; the ability to work and collaborate with others as a team of staff, students and faculty; excellent communication and problem-solving skills; ability and desire to train, supervise, and direct student workers in the field; and motivation to learn and experiment. Additional experience with livestock management is also desirable. This position is full time with benefits available.
