Food Animals Concerns Trust Conference Scholarships

Food Animals Concerns Trust (FACT) will award scholarships of up to $400 to cover registration fees for livestock and poultry farmers to attend the 2018 Southern SAWG conference. Scholarships are awarded on a first come-first served basis until funding is depleted, so don’t delay! Military Veteran Scholarships


Limited scholarships are available for military veterans who would like to attend Southern Sustainable Agriculture Working Group’s (SAWG) annual Practical Tools and Solutions for Sustaining Family Farms Conference.

The University of Arkansas and the National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) are partnering to offer the veteran scholarships. Fifteen partial scholarships, which will cover the cost of general conference registration, will be awarded. Five full scholarships are also available, which will cover the cost of conference registration, short course and field trip attendance, and lodging at the conference hotel.

The deadline to apply for the scholarships is December 8, 2017. The application is available here. Applicants will be notified no later than December 13 about the status of their scholarship application.

Southern SAWG Fee Waivers

The Southern SAWG conference is regularly attended by contingencies of farmers from the Gulf South, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and many areas affected by our turbulent hurricane season this year. In light of these hardships, Southern SAWG has set aside a number of additional fee waivers for farmers affected by this hurricane season, to ease their cost of participation.  If you know a farmer who is struggling after the hurricanes and could use an extra boost to get going again before the new season, please let them know about this opportunity.

Qualified candidates are those who:

  • absolutely cannot afford the conference registration fee
  • have never before received a fee waiver from Southern SAWG to attend our annual conference
  • are farming commercially in the Southern U.S. or are planning to be in the next year, AND
  • have a sincere interest in sustainable or organic agriculture.

Preference will be given to those who have never attended a Southern SAWG conference before.
