FOG Organic Food & Farming Summit [FL]


In celebration of its 30th anniversary, Florida Certified Organic Growers and Consumers (FOG) will be hosting its inaugural Organic Food & Farming Summit in September! This exciting new event will serve as an opportunity for growers, educators, advocates, academics & researchers to interact and gain knowledge through farm tours, workshops, a trade show, and day-long training sessions.

Sunday the 17th:

On Sunday, September 17th FOG will be kicking off our inaugural Organic Food & Farming Summit with organic food & farm tours! Visitors will make their own way to locations in and around Gainesville for tours & workshops.

After the farm tours, join us for the trade show mixer for drinks & treats featuring organic beer from Orlando Brewing Co, Florida’s only certified organic brewery. Dozens of exhibitors will be in attendance to show off their wares and speak with you about their organization or business! The mixer is free for all to attend and starts at 6:00 pm at the UF Hilton Conference Center.

 

Monday the 18th:

Monday includes workshops & talks by innovative organic farmers, extension agents, researchers, & advocates covering topics including climate change, pest management, urban agriculture, livestock, farm business, citrus greening, policy, and much more. Full workshop lineup here!

Marty Mesh, executive director of FOG, will be speaking during the Summit luncheon sharing his experiences working on-farm and advocating for organics in Florida for over three decades. The trade show will also be open all day Monday.

 

Tuesday the 19th:

1) Food Safety Grower Training Course: 8:30am-5pm This course is designed for fruit and vegetable growers and others interested in learning about produce safety, the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule, Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs), and co-management of natural resources and food safety. Includes lunch from Humble Wood Fire Pizza!

2) Beyond the Soil- Resources for Beginner Organic Producers: 9am-4pm Beyond the Soil will consist of presentations by Farm Credit, NRCS, RMA-USDA, SSARE, and more highlighting existing programs, services & resources available to assist new and beginner organic and transitioning to organic farmers.

Includes lunch from Humble Wood Fire Pizza! $25
