Topics will include: “Integrated Pest and Disease Control; and Feature Farm’s Pastured Poultry, Flowers, and high tunnel”. Insects, weeds, diseases, and other pests can severely damage and destroy crops, reduce crop yields, and negatively impact crop quality. Top experts from Mississippi State University Extension Service, Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station and experienced farmers will show farmers and gardeners how to prevent, identify, monitor, and control insects, diseases, weeds, and other pests.
This field day is being hosted by Levee Run Farms. The farm owner is Leann Hines. Her grandparents moved to this site from Sunflower County in 1940 when it was a small cotton and cattle farm. They have been raising pastured layers and broilers along with limited vegetable production since 2008. In 2013, they added an NRCS high tunnel in order to raise vegetables year round. In 2014, they began cut flower growing in the field and high tunnel and is adding fruit trees each year. Water conservation, fertility improvement, and sustainability are just a few of their goals.
