Alliance Field Day [MS]

THE APRIL 15TH FIELD DAY WILL BE HOSTED BY 7CEDARS FARM IN MADISON COUNTY/PICKENS, MS.  7Cedars Farm is a sustainable family farm and homestead in the Big Black River Alluvial Plain of Northern Madison County. The farm is owned and operated by John and Amanda Sellers. Currently, they produce vegetables spring, summer and fall and sell through their CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) to families, restaurants and at farm markets in the tri-county area. They also raise pure bred Berkshire hogs, meat chickens, farm fresh eggs with no hormones or antibiotics. “Everything we do on 7Cedars Farm is as clean, natural and environmentally sound as possible. We use organic growing principles with our gardens. We use no toxic chemicals as pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers”.

Topics will include: “Growing Warm Season Crops; Featuring Farm’s CSA; Free Legal Assistance to Farmers; and Vendor Opportunities”. Dr. David Nagel, Horticulture Specialist with Mississippi State University will help farmers and growers decide what crops to grow and how to grow them. He will focus on selecting the right varieties for our region, planting dates, disease resistance and tolerance, pest control, crop rotation, and more. 

John Sellers and Farm Manager, Dean Williams will provide a tour of this mixed use farming operation and highlight current and planned activities. Faculty and students from the University of Mississippi Transactional Law Clinic will be on hand to provide FREE one-on-one consultations with farmers on legal and business issues. We will also provide an opportunity for vendors and farmers to display items for sale, their services, etc. If you would like to display items for sale or suggest vendors or service providers, please contact us.

DIRECTIONS TO 7CEDARS FARM

7Cedars Farm is located at 5913 Hwy 51, Pickens, MS 39146.  FROM NORTH: Take Hwy 51 south from Pickens, MS.  Farm entrance is about 6.5 miles south of city limits of Pickens on the right side of Hwy 51.  FROM WEST: Take Hwy 17 exit off I-55, turn left (EAST) on Hwy 17 to Hwy 51.  Turn right (South) on Hwy 51 through Pickens, MS.  Farm entrance is about 6.5 miles south of city limits of Pickens on the right side of Hwy 51.  FROM SOUTH: Take North Canton exit off I-55, turn right (East) which will carry you to dead end into Hwy 51.
