Our 2009 Practical Tools and Solutions for Sustaining Family
Farms Conference will be held January 21-24, 2009 at the Chattanooga
Convention Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Mark your calendar
and plan to participate in this popular event. We’re already
planning pre-conference courses and gathering conference session ideas.

Eat Carolina Food Challenge is a local food campaign
in which participants from the Carolinas agree to eat only food produced
within the region for one week: July 7-13, 2008. Challengers will
blog about their experience eating local food at www.carolinafarmstewards.org/blog/
and a winner with the most points at the end of the challenge will
receive free admission to the 23rd Sustainable Agriculture Conference,
CFSAs annual conference, which draws over 700 attendees committed
to building sustainable community food systems in the Carolinas.

Field Day & Workshop:
Organic Growers' Field Day and Soil Building Workshop
July 10 (preregistration required)
Lane Ag Center - Lane, OK
This free event at the Lane Ag Center is for new and established organic
growers, as well as those contemplating a venture. A workshop covering
soil building techniques, including organic conversion and composting,
will be followed by a field day addressing certification, production,

Fueling the Farm II & Biofuels Production Workshops
July 10-11, 2008
Goldsboro, NC
The Center for Environmental Farming Systems in collaboration
with the National Center for Appropriate Technology will be
hosting two back-to-back full day workshops on on-farm energy conservation
and use in Goldsboro, NC. The first (July 10) will explore on farm
energy use and conservation, renewable energy options, enhancing energy
efficiency on the farm, the latest in carbon credits, and potential
funding sources for on-farm energy projects. Workshop participants
will have the opportunity to construct a solar heating system to supplement
the propane heat used in greenhouses. Larry Shirley, The Director
of the State Energy Office, will provide the keynote.
The second workshop (July 11) will be a hands-on workshop led by Matt
Rudolf of Piedmont Biofuels teaching on-farm production of biofuels
from seed crushing to end-product. For more details and registration

The Community Food Systems Program of Southern Sustainable Agriculture
Working Group (SSAWG) is holding its 2nd Annual Training Intensive
in Nashville, Tennessee in partnership with the Food Security Partners
of Middle Tennessee. We are inviting you and another individual representing
your local food systems organizing to join us for 2.5 days of learning
lead by some of the best minds in our work.
This year's training will focus on the following themes:
