At a recent gathering hosted by the Mvskoke Food Sovereignty Initiative (Creek Nation) and the Oklahoma Black Historical Research Project in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, the program included Garrett King from Congressman Frank Lucas’s Office. Mr. King shared an overview of the Farm Bill process from their perspective and encouraged farmers to continue reaching out to members of Congress who are not living in the “Farm Bill Bubble” in order to engage and educate them on our policy needs.
Here is a SHORT VIDEO of Garrett King sharing these thoughts in his own words.
The National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC) echoed the same theme at their recent summer session. There will be a comment period open through November 16 on the Food Safety Modernization Act. In the next two weeks, NSAC will roll out a grass-roots tool kit to assist farmers and advocates to speak to members of Congress on this rule along with details on the “Stranded Programs” within the current Farm Bill. Stay tuned!
