Back to Work on a Farm Bill!

Chairman Frank Lucas called a meeting in his office yesterday, with Senate Agriculture Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) and her ranking Republican, Mississippi Senator Thad Cochran, as well as Minnesota Representative. Collin Peterson, the ranking Democrat on the House side.

Senator Lucas’ staff say there could be a full House-Senate conference beginning the last week of October. You can read more from David Rogers on politico.com.

Results can go either way so it’s important to keep up your calls and letters to your representatives, especially if they haven’t been closely involved with the Farm Bill discussions. Garrett King from Congressman Frank Lucas’s Office reminded us that “Senator Lucas, his staff and those we engage  with on a daily basis are somewhat in the farm bill bubble. We really need other members of congress to understand how important this is and what it means to the nations’ food supply.” I take that as his challenge to farmers and farm advocates to keep up the pressure to see a fair Farm Bill passed.
