Take Five Minutes For the Farm Bill!

Take just five minutes today – that’s right, just five! – for a National Day of Action for a better farm bill. Yesterday, NSAC handed Congress over 20,000 signatures from farmers and advocates across the country demanding an equitable, sustainable 2012 Farm Bill. Today, we’ll make sure they hear the message loud and clear! While you’re on your lunch break, out in the field, on your way to a meeting, or headed to class, join us in making a unified statement to Congress: Get a farm bill done, and get it done right!

Will you join us?

Step 1: Dial the Congressional Switchboard at  (202) 224-3121 and ask for your Representative.
Step 2: Share a message like one of the three below with the person who answers the phone.
Step 3: Help us spread the word - and then give yourself a hand! You're done!

Suggested messages to share with your Representative:

Message 1:

Hello, my name is _____. I’m a constituent and a voter (and tell ‘em if you’re a farmer!).

I’m calling to ask Representative ______ to help get the 2012 Farm Bill finished, and to ensure that the 2012 Farm Bill invests in healthy farms, food, and people. We need a farm bill that funds programs for beginning farmers, supports local and regional food systems, and ensures access to fresh, healthy food for all.

Thank you!

Message 2:

Hello, my name is _____. I’m a constituent and a voter (and tell ‘em if you’re a farmer!).

I’m calling to ask Representative ______ to help get the 2012 Farm Bill finished, and to ensure that the 2012 Farm Bill protects our natural resources for the next generation of farmers. We need a farm bill that rewards farmers for their environmental stewardship, links federal crop insurance to conservation practices, and protects conservation funding instead of using it to pay for short-term disaster fixes.

Thank you!

Message 3:

Hello, my name is _____. I’m a constituent and a voter (and tell ‘em if you’re a farmer!).

I’m calling to ask Representative ______ to help get the 2012 Farm Bill finished, and to ensure that the 2012 Farm Bill levels the playing field for America’s family farmers. We need a farm bill that eliminates wasteful direct payments, closes unfair loopholes, and caps farm and crop insurance subsidies to improve fiscal responsibility. Thank you!

Thank you!
