Cathy uses an old refrigerator for storing seed.
Alvin stores all seeds in operating freezers. Can buy in bulk (50lb bags) if you store them in freezer. Make sure seeds are very dry before freezing. Alvin started freezing seeds after reading Nat Geographic articles- sprouting seeds frozen for 2000 yrs.
Alvin saves the seed he harvests himself.
Most of these growers have had the experience already of having their favorite varieties disappear from the catalogs. Paul thinks seed buying is likely to get worse as time goes on. The Wiedigers have frozen an emergency supply of seed. All open pollinated, all things they will want to eat themselves. This is their survival pack. They say so much seed is being grown overseas now. They suspect the varieties being grown make not work in our climates.
Mark stores flower seeds organized by planting date -- X weeks before frost. Does not keep flower seeds till the next year, but does keep veggies seed over to the next year.
