Organic Farmer Network: Network Discussion Summary

Topic: Melon

Melon Favorites:

Ken says, “I have had hit and miss success with cantaloupes over the years, but done pretty well the last 3 years with Athena. It is a very firm melon but folks like the flavor and you can hold it in a cooler for a week, unlike the faster ripening melons like Ambrosia. It is the most popular melon at our market now.”

Tim says, “Desert King watermelon has done very nicely for years and stays ripe for over a month without rotting. Which is always nice since it is difficult to tell when they are really ripe.”

Charlie likes Sweetie and Ambrosia Cantaloupe and Crimson Sweet and Yellow Doll watermelons.
