Organic Farmer Network: Network Discussion Summary

Topic: Blackberries

Charlie’s favorite blackberries are Hull and Triple Crown. "[Hull] is  semi-erect but requires strong trellising and careful pruning. Our oldest vines are 13 years old and still producing heavily. It has a good flavor when picked ripe, but not as sweet as some of the newer varieties such as "Triple Crown," "Navajo," "Arapaho," and "Apache." We started some of these two years ago, and are looking forward to their production next year. So far, the "Triple Crowns" look the best of that bunch -- and they are very sweet (but the berries are smaller -- there is always a catch, isn't there?)
