Organic Farmer Network: Network Discussion Summary

Topic: Basil

Cathy’s favorite basil is Genovese, Red Rubin.  She grows Persian Anise for bouquets.

Charlie grows "Sweet Thai," from Johnny’ s Seed. “This year I sold lots of it to the restaurants, and I believed they used it mostly as a garnish. I sold it for $16 a pound. We also made up beautiful bunches of Thai mixed with ‘Sweet Dani’ and ‘Italian Large Leaf’ for the CSA. The ‘Italian Large Leaf’ also came from Johnnys. It is a great variety for pesto; chefs and CSA members all liked it. We did four plantings this year of the ‘Italian’ and spaced about 12" apart in double rows. We space all our basil about the same.”
